Mission Statement

The Mission of the Library Media Program is to assist students in the development of the information literacy skills necessary for independent lifelong learning.  Emphasis is placed on the appreciation of enjoyment of literature and the motivation of reading for pleasure as well as for information.

The Library Media Center Program will ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and are information  literate.  Information literacy skills include locating, interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating and utilizing data from a variety of resources.

The mission of the Library Program is to stimulate the power of knowledge within each student by strengthening the relationship between the students and the challenges of an ever-changing world through libraries.

The Nine Information Literacy Standards For Student Learning

INFORMATION LITERACY:  The student who is information literate:

Standard 1:  accesses information efficiently and effectively.

Standard 2:  evaluates information critically and competently.

Standard 3:  uses information accurately and creatively.

INDEPENDENT LEARNING:  The student who is an independent learner is information literate and:

Standard 4:  pursues information related to personal interests.

Standard 5:  appreciates literature and other creative expressions of information.

Standard 6:  strives for excellence in information seeking and knowledge generation.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  The student who contributes positively to the learning community and to society is information literate and:

Standard 7:  recognizes the importance of information to a democratic society.

Standard 8:  practices ethical behavior in regard to information and information technology.

Standard 9:  participates effectively in groups to pursue and generate information.

8:05AM - 8:30 AM

Morning Passes are distributed at the main door

  Check out a book or magazine

      (one book or magazine each checkout)

   Keep a book out for two weeks

  Return a book anytime during the school day

  Research topics

  Get help finding answers to questions

  Sit and Read a book or magazine

  Complete homework assignments

  Get help with homework assignments

  Socialize

  Play board games

  Watch movies

  Play designated games on the computer

Rules and Regulations - Library Style

   
bullet Students sent to the library to do research must have a written topic and sentences defining the problem they are seeking to solve.
bullet

Students who use the internet must take notes and have permission from a library staff member to print information from the internet.

bullet

Students who come to the library before school must have a pass from the librarian before homeroom begins.

bullet

Students who want to do research in the library during their lunch period may get a research pass from any of their classroom teachers.

bullet

Students are encouraged to read any book or magazine in the library.

bullet

Students must enter the library through the entrance and leave the library through the designated exit.

bullet

Students are to refrain from running in the library and avoid extremely loud talking.

bullet

All books that have been checked out to students must be returned to the circulation desk book deposit and not to the library shelves.

bullet

After usage make sure all game and puzzle pieces are returned to their appropriate boxes and returned to the game cart.

bullet

Always push chairs back under the tables.

bullet

Don't download games or music to a computer and don't make any changes to what is already on a computer.

bullet

Do not shut down the computers.

bullet

Do not bring food into the library.

bullet

The teacher lounge area is off limits to students.

bullet

When available use the (OLPAC) Online Public Access Catalog to locate books, authors and topics of interest to you.

bullet

Any students who disregard a library rule will be excluded from the library for a period of one week.

Professional Planning For Media Center Time

Give prior notice to the librarian about class projects which will require individual students or entire classes utilizing the library facility and its materials.

bullet

Think of the library as an extension of classroom activities that are planned in advance.

bullet

With proper planning and advance collaboration between the librarian and the classroom teacher library activities can be used introduce, enrich and enhance all content area curriculum topics.

All effective library activities are supported and involve the classroom teacher during implementation.

bullet

Classes coming into the library must have a stated purpose.

bullet

Browse the library collection to assist with assigning topics.

bullet

Library time is scheduled on a first come first serve basis.

bullet

Rubrics are used in the library as expectation for students and a grading tool of the teacher.
