Brief Biography

Born in Camden, NJ but I will not tell you the year! Grew up in Collingswood, and educated at Rowan University and University of the Arts. I have taught in Camden, Collingswood, Haddonfield, and Cherry Hill. I have traveled through England, Italy, France, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Mexico, Canada, and some islands and also throughout lots of the US. I love to travel! I have two grown children one is a teacher in Pennsauken and the other is in medical sales. I love to read, go to the beach, take photographs, and occasionally paint. Drawing or sketching is a favorite, too.

Philosophy of Education

After twenty-six years in art education, my idealism is still in tact! I still believe that education through the arts is one of; if not, the best type of education a child can receive. The teacher needs to be an artist of sorts, managing the medium (subject matter), with the canvas, (classroom environment), and rearranging the shapes (students), until they have come together to form a rare piece of art (knowledgeable, creative, problem solving beings). This final piece of art contains lines, color and texture, or emotional, mental, and social well being.

It is my philosophy then that education is not only to impart knowledge, but also to build creative thinking and problem solving abilities. The job of education is also to foster emotional, mental, and social growth. Successful educators know that these abilities go hand in hand, especially in elementary education.

Creative teachers bring their subject matter to life and make the experience more thought provoking and interesting. I believe hands-on activities in all subject areas enhance learning and retention.

It is also my philosophy that the teacher needs to bring herself into the classroom by sharing some of who she is with her students. This creates a more personal relationship with the students and the students will want to please that teacher.

I also believe that in order to be a successful educator you must believe in, and thoroughly love what you are doing. Education is not a job, it is a calling!  I am still idealistic. I believe that we can get it right!
