Anti-Bullying Awareness Activities

groupCamden Schools to Participate in Rutgers Bullying Prevention Institute
The Camden City Public Schools Office of Safety and Security has been selected to participate in the Rutgers Bullying Prevention Institute (BPI) for the 2012-2013 school year. Led by Ms. Andrea Damiani, Anti Bullying Coordinator, a selected team of district employees will work with BPI to develop and organize a sustainable set of strategies to reduce incidents of HIB and create a positive school climate throughout the district. This team will also continue developing existing anti-bullying policies and procedures to stay in line with New Jersey laws on Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB).

Camden Public Schools was the only district in South Jersey to be selected to participate in the Bullying Prevention Institute this year. Ten school districts from North Jersey were also selected. Each district will work with the Bullying Prevention Institute staff to organize and plan activities throughout the school district. “Our team will have an opportunity to review best practices from around the state which will help us develop a positive atmosphere in our schools. Reducing incidents of violence is about having safe schools and Camden is committed to creating a positive school climate and culture,” stated Gaylen A. Conley, Executive Director of Safety and Security for the district.

The Bullying Prevention Institute (BPI) is a training initiative developed by the Center for Applied Psychology (CAP) at Rutgers University. BPI was developed in response to the increasing need for effective and comprehensive plans for preventing, detecting, and intervening in incidents of Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) in school districts across the state of New Jersey.
