OVERVIEW


Our vision for CCSD Family University is that every CCSD family is equipped and empowered to advocate and partner with schools to ensure every child has access to a quality education and achieves excellence in school. Family University will accomplish this vision in partnership with the Mayor’s Office, and several community-based organizations, to provide a wide variety of offerings to enrich, engage, and empower parents, and caregivers as equal partners in the education, and well-being of their children.

CCSD Family University is designed to help increase parents’ feelings of efficacy, the feeling that they can impact their child’s learning in ways that produce the most profound effects on student outcomes. CCSD has defined a major component of their family engagement core work as building the collective capacity of families and teachers to partner in ways that support student achievement, and overall school improvement. Families are able to better support their child’s learning and advocate effectively on their behalf, and teachers are better able to communicate and collaborate with parents in true parent-teacher learning communities.  

Our theory of change is: If we provide all CCSD parents and staff with the requisite capabilities, connections,  confidence, and cognition, they will be able to engage in partnerships that will support student achievement and student learning. When parents and staff are provided with opportunities the knowledge and experience they gain will build their capacity to advocate and support not only their child’s learning but their own personal learning, then parents and staff will become more engaged and intentional in demanding and supporting quality education for their children in ways that result in improved student outcomes and school improvement.
