SJ Summer Institute

The South Jersey Summer Institute for Educators is a unique way to gain new skills and help prepare your students for the workforce. Sponsored by local employers like Subaru and Wells Fargo, the Chamber of Commerce’s Institute is a summer PD program that exposes area teachers to the South Jersey economy, highlighting the skills, traits, and characteristics businesses look for when hiring employees. For more than 20 years, Camden teachers have participated in this three-week intensive program, which encourages them to incorporate the lessons learned at the Institute into their teachings.

The goal of the tSummer Institute is to expose teachers to real-world challenges and opportunities facing area businesses. This gives educators a better understanding of the skills and characteristics their students will need to be successful in the workplace. Tours, panel discussions, speakers, activities and in-depth discussions with experts give teachers a change to explore key economic concepts and business issues related to workplace readiness firsthand.

Participants work in teams to modify and/or develop creative activities for use in the classroom. Each participant will earn 100 hours of professional development credits and receive a stipend of $1,000, along with all materials and transportation to and from program tours.

The Institute is consistent with New Jersey’s Workplace Readiness Standards of the Core Curriculum Standards by enabling educators to better prepare all students for employment.

The 2018 Application deadline is March 23. SJ Summer Institute.
