NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Act
Holding schools accountable for improving student performance is, basically, what the No Child Left Behind law is all about. And parents are an important part of that process. The NCLB Act ensures that all children in the United States receive a high quality education and to close the achievement gap that exists between children who typically perform well in school and those who do not—many of who are from minority racial and ethnic groups, have disabilities, live in poverty, or do not have English as their first language.
To achieve increased student academic achievement, the law proposes the following:

Parental Involvement
The district is committed to keeping parents informed and involved. Parents play in important role in the welfare and education of their child. It is the parent/guardian’s right to know what their child is learning in school and the availability of programs offered by the district that will increase student success in school.
We encourage parents to be involved in the process. Parents can help the district by keeping us informed of changes in the home that may have an effect on student conduct and their ability to achieve. This includes changes in legal custody, moving to another part of the city and health issues that may hinder the delivery of instruction a student receives.
Attending parent teacher conferences twice a year may not be enough for some students to succeed. Parents may need to meet with the school principal or the student’s teacher to discuss student performance and behavior. By working together, parents can ensure that their child receives the necessary services to enhance the learning experience. Now, more than ever, parents are empowered to insist on the highest quality education for their child and have the right to move from a failing school environment to a school where their child can receive the extra help he/she needs to achieve. Parental Involvement equals student achievement.
The U.S. Department of education offers resources for parents. Click on the link below to view information on how parents can help students become better academic achievers.
Title I
Funding for Title I grants are awarded to states and to districts to improve the education of disadvantaged children, turn around schools, and increase choices for parents. Title I also provides for parental involvement funding to be used in schools and provides for parents to play an active role in their child’s education. Parents have a right to know how their child’s school measures up to other schools in the district and in the state. The New Jersey Department of Education posts a “Report Card” for each school district. Click on the link below to view the report card for your child’s school.
